My name is John Fredrickson, when I was born in Massachusetts, my father told me to 'make a change for the better' so that's what I set up to do. I tried to save America but I failed. This was my what I learned in the process...
A few months ago, I found out that our country had a goal- to strive for Empire. When a country is trying to reach Empire, they are trying to become the super power, or the most influential country in the world. To do this, a country has to has to balance their Social, Political, Economic, and Military aspects of their country, which is exactly what America is trying to do.
Socially, many Americans feel that our culture and race is better than most. Having an influential country allows many of the rich, white Americans to spread our 'better way of life'. Their goal and outcomes of having Empire is to make their race, and culture dominant over any and all other cultures.
Politically, every country wants the most amount of say during global problems, or debates. This way many of the smaller countries are dependent on you by all the trade, and expansion you have done, so therefore will vote on your side.
Economically a country's goals is to be able to have the best natural resources, and to be able to open more markets around, and open trading with other countries. To do this, a country has to expand their territory, but a country can only expand if they have the correct military capabilities to do so.
Which brings me to the most important, military. Without a strong capable military, a country cannot gain as much territory, therefore they cannot have as much influence politically in the world, as I mentioned before. Also, new technology to update the military system will better prepare if and when our country goes into war. America has just ended the Civil War, the most brutal battle this country has seen- and it was against our bother. So we now have to build up our army, from almost nothing.
When I heard this news- we as a country were trying to reach Empire- I was distraught, because when we set out to build this country we wanted to stick with the American Ideals- Opportunity, rights, liberty, democracy, equality- and by building an Empire it conflicts with those ideals.
Therefore, I have come up with my decision, America is better off not trying to become Empire.
Until next time,
John Fredrickson
